Most businesses fail not because of execution, but because they solve a problem nobody has — or nobody cares enough about to pay for. Validation is the process of finding out before you invest years of your life.

The 30-Day Validation Framework

Week 1: Define the Problem

Before you validate your solution, validate the problem. Talk to 20 potential customers. Ask:

  • Tell me about the last time you experienced this problem.
  • How do you currently solve it?
  • How much does this problem cost you in time or money?

If fewer than 15 of 20 people describe the problem as painful, reconsider.

Week 2: Test the Solution

Build the simplest possible version of your solution — a landing page, a mockup, a manual process. Show it to 10 of the people who confirmed the problem.

Ask: "Would you pay ₹X/month for this?" Then stop talking. The silence is data.

Week 3: Get Pre-Orders

The ultimate validation is money. Create a pre-order page. Offer a 30% discount for founding members. If you cannot get 10 paying customers in a week, the idea needs work.

Week 4: Analyse and Decide

Review your data:

  • Did people describe the problem without prompting?
  • Did they ask when they could start using your solution?
  • Did anyone pay?

If yes to all three: build. If no to any: iterate or pivot.

Common Validation Mistakes

  1. Asking friends and family — They will be supportive, not honest.
  2. Validating the solution before the problem — You need to confirm the pain first.
  3. Counting "I would use that" as validation — Only money counts.
  4. Surveying instead of interviewing — Surveys give you data. Interviews give you insight.
